Hertfordshire parents back blind cord safety campaign

BBC News 23 Feb 2012 The parents of two Hertfordshire toddlers who died after becoming entangled in blind cords are backing a campaign highlighting their dangers.

Two-year-olds Emily Warner from Royston and Arthur Winfield from Markyate, died in separate accidents involving window blind cords.

The families are supporting a leaflet campaign launched by the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Board.

Emily’s father said: “We don’t want other families to suffer as we have.”

An inquest at Hatfield Coroner’s Court heard Emily was badly hurt last August in a “tragic accident”. She was resuscitated but suffered significant brain damage and died four months later. (more…)

A toddler has died in Plymouth after his mother found him hanging by a window blind cord.

Twenty-one-month-old Caden Laine, from the Whiteleigh area of the city, died after being found in his bedroom on Friday evening.

Devon and Cornwall Police said his death was being treated as accidental and the coroner had been informed.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa) is campaigning for looped blind cords to be made safer. (more…)

Blind Cord Safety Campaign Starts

The parents of a toddler who died after becoming entangled in a window blind cord are backing a safety campaign highlighting their dangers.

Two-year-old Muireann McLaughlin died at her home in Menstrie after falling into a looped cord while waving goodbye to her grandmother in February 2008.

The accident prompted a sheriff to call for looped blind cords to be banned.

Her parents are now backing a national leaflet campaign being launched at Wishaw General Hospital. (more…)
